Giving Back with The Knit Stitch

As the saying goes “If you don’t like the way the world is, do something about it”. For a while now I’ve been pondering the best way to do that.

The Knit Stitch hat will be my first pattern designed to improve the lives of others. All proceeds from the Ravelry sales of this pattern will be donated to Give Directly.

If you’ve never heard of Give Directly, it’s an organization which gives the worlds poorest the thing they need the most – cash. I think it also gives those same people something else the need – the dignity to choose for themselves what it is they need. It gives them options and it gives them the chance to help themselves.

The hat is double knit with a stockinette motif. Mine is made with Malibrigo Rios, a super-soft superwash merino. It takes one skein each of two colors. Knit it short like I did, or keep going to make a fold over brim.

You can find the pattern on Ravelry and it’s only $5.50.
